Dunedin Heritage Weekend programme

We’re delighted to announce the programme for Dunedin Heritage Weekend, a small selection of events celebrating the stories, places and people that have shaped our city. From Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October, there’ll be plenty of ways to discover Dunedin’s heritage,

Friday night’s Heritage Bytes brings together a fascinating line-up of speakers exploring everything from the Otago Art Society’s 150-year anniversary to the history of Albion Place.

On Saturday, explore the historic Dominican Priory or the Standard Building on a guided tour, or head out on the harbour for Port to Port’s Otago Harbour History and Shipwrecks mini tour.

Sunday brings Tales from Darkest Dunedin, with walking and van tours exploring some of the city’s more intriguing and unsettling stories. For something a little more genteel, the Dunedin Tweed Ride invites participants to embrace vintage style for a leisurely heritage-themed ride through the city.

And at the Dunedin Gasworks Museum, celebrate the 100th birthday of the mighty Bryan Donkin booster engine with a Steampunk High Tea, featuring cake, tea and other delicacies, teapot racing, tea duelling and a human fruit machine. It’s all in aid of a good time, with the whole family welcome.
