The WCHC is an Incorporated Society totally run by volunteers. In 2010 preliminary work was begun to determine the feasibility of building a new purposeful heritage centre for the display and storage of our heritage collection. The 1869 bank building (the original museum) was deemed to be unsuitable for this purpose. Volunteers raised the necessary funds in a variety of ways and work began on a new building in 2012. The new Heritage Centre eventually opened in June 2021. One year later in 2022 we began the process for restoration of the old bank building. This presentation will outline the highs and lows of undertaking such projects, especially by a small volunteer group in a rural town.
