Saving Dunedin’s Heritage - Lou Robinson’s Contribution
Speakers: Stephen Macknight and Lois Galer
Lou Robinson was a key figure in the field of structural engineering who applied his design skills to preserving Dunedin’s heritage from the 1970s onwards. Lou’s advice and support to heritage advocates and professionals was greatly appreciated, he was often the first to put up his hand when support for heritage was needed. His immense contribution enabled the restoration and re-use of many landmark heritage buildings. Lou’s legacy of engineering work ensures that adaptive re-use and retrofit strengthening are seen as practical and cost effective alternatives to demolition.
