22 Oct 2024, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Community Gallery, 26 Princes Street, Central Dunedin, Dunedin 9016, New Zealand
A lively series of heritage-themed presentations.
Tonight, Associate Professor Jen Cattermole and friends will speak about the immersive exhibition, Hou Rongo – Moriori | Music | Manawa, which is currently on display at Tūhura Otago Museum.
Hou Rongo invites visitors to step into the world of Moriori, the original inhabitants of Rēkohu (Chatham Island), through a stunning blend of traditional culture and cutting-edge technology.
In this talk, Associate Professor Jen Cattermole (ethnomusicologist), Associate Professor Steve Mills (computer scientist), and Professor Nancy Longnecker (science communicator and exhibition curator) will share some of their experiences developing this inspiring exhibition.
The Hou Rongo exhibition was developed in partnership with the Hokotehi Moriori Trust and the University of Otago and offers a rare and profound insight into the culture of New Zealand's indigenous Moriori people.
