An Anscombe Makeover

Speaker: Peter Petchey

A house on Grant Street that was demolished in 2024 had connections to several people involved with organising the 1925 Dunedin & South Seas International Exhibition, including the architect of the Exhibition buildings, Edmund Anscombe. This talk describes the house, its history and archaeology, and the individuals involved.

 

Unbuilt Dunedin

A look at some ambitious and unusual building projects of the 19th and 20th centuries that never came to fruition.


Resting at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition 1925-26

With all the excitement of the fun fair, where did people go to escape from it all? Alison Breese takes us through the first ever Dunedin restrooms, catering for women and children at the NZ & South Seas Exhibition 1925 which led to city wide restrooms being provided, and showcases the amazing work women did to create a space of their own.
