King Edward Technical College visit
15 Nov 2022, 2:00 pm
King Edward Court main entrance , 291 Stuart Street, Central Dunedin, Dunedin 9016, New Zealand
Dunedin is well-known for education excellence, and King Edward Court, formerly King Edward Techincal College, was purpose-built in 1914 to cater for technical high school education and apprenticeship training.
The handsome red brick building has an interesting history and is in the news because it is now for sale.
In 1966 the building became Otago Polytechnic, specialising in trade and apprentice training, and new high school facilities were built at Logan Park. All the original Otago Polytechnic training eventually transferred to the current Forth St campus.
Rooms now house a thriving cultural and artistic community, all of whom are worried about the future.
Adrian Mann of Alexander Pianos recently featured in the ODT, also a community group aiming to find a way to purchase the building.
