Still an inspiring decade of fashion changes, the 1920s saw women’s clothes slim down and shorten as hemlines rose. Mannish garments were adopted by women, and men were urged to be more colourful.


Futurism and Art Deco influenced design. Fur was so popular it became an important component of New Zealand’s trade with other parts of the world, and the opening of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin was an opportunity to show off one’s latest finery.
