The Southern Heritage Trust is a charitable organisation consisting of six trustees.  The trust was established in 2002 with the main intention of promoting an awareness of the rich cultural heritage of Dunedin, Otago and the Southern Region of New Zealand.  

The Northern Cemetery is one of the many historic sites that the Southern Heritage Trust actively promotes in conjunction with other organisations such as the Dunedin City Council.
